79th & Broadway Entertainment asked us to remaster their 16mm horror film Offspring, in 4k. To save on costs, they only wanted to scan the necessary shots from over 40,000 feet of original camera negative. Unfortunately the EDLs that had been made several years ago were done in the wrong frame rate and were unusable except as a rough guide for a manual re-conform of the film.
Working with Perry and his incredible team at Gamma Ray Digital was truly a pleasure. The quality of their 4k scan is incredible and I couldn’t be prouder of the new release of Offspring thanks to their detailed, diligent, hard work. Gamma Ray Digital is a top notch company with a boutique feel, giving you the client comfort the job will get done on time, on budget and at the best quality possible.
We scanned all 40+ lab reels of film at 60fps at low resolution, with KeyKode burnin, and matched it to the final edit. From that we were able to create a workable EDL for our scanner to use, in recapturing the film at 4k in HDR mode on our ScanStation.
The whole process took about 90 hours to scan, conform, and re-scan the final shots.
